Apple cider vinegar is a powerful detoxifying and purifying agent. It breaks down fatty, mucous, and phlegm deposits in the body and, by doing so, improves the health and function of the vital organs of the body, such as the liver, kidney, and bladder by preventing excessively alkaline urine. It oxidises and thins the blood, and promotes digestion, assimilation and elimination, as well as neutralising toxic substances that enter the body. Apple cider vinegar has also been found to neutralise harmful bacteria found in certain foods.

Apple cider vinegar is rich in potassium, and this is believed to ease the effects of common colds and allergies. It is also helpful for tooth decay and splitting fingernails, both of which are signs of potassium deficiency. Potassium is also important for the replacement of worn out tissues within the body and also for soft tissue repair. Apple cider vinegar is also thought to help arthritis, either as a beverage, or with compresses soaked in hot vinegar and applied to the affected joints. It is also helpful in the treatment of asthma, nose bleeds, osteoporosis, candida, high cholesterol, colds, constipation, muscle cramps, colitis, diabetes, diarrhea, depression, dizziness, ear discharge, eczema, fatigue, gallstones, kidney stones, hay fever, headaches, heartburn, hiccups, indigestion, insomnia, kidney and bladder problems, metabolism, nasal congestion, sore throats, stiff joints, ulcers, and weight loss.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants

Antioxidants have quite a number of health benefits and are a vital part of any diet. They are present in a number of fresh foods and their role is to neutralise the effects of free radicals upon the body.

What Are Free Radicals?
Free radicals are produced as part of everyday life. Even breathing in oxygen is enough to cause the production of free radicals! Normally, the body is able to neutralise these free radicals on its own, but external factors such as pollution, UV radiation, alcohol, and smoking can cause an overload of free radicals that the body is unable to cope with, leading to damage. This damage is a major cause of ageing, and it can contribute to a variety of illnesses. Some examples of the damages that free radicals can cause include:

inflammation of the joints
deterioration in the eyes
accelerating the ageing process
increasing the risk of heart disease
damaging the nerve cells in the brain
What Do Antioxidants Do?
Antioxidants help the body to neutralise the free radicals. There are over 4000 compounds present in food that have antioxidant properties. Oxidation in the body produces free radicals which in turn cause oxidative stress within the body. Antioxidants, as their name suggests, are capable of stabilising the free radicals before they cause damage.

As an example of the protective effects of antioxidants, the lycopene in tomatoes may help protect men against prostate cancer, the lutein in spinach and corn may reduce the degeneration of the eye lens, and flavenoids may help to lower the risk of heart disease.

Types of Antioxidants
Antioxidants are found in foods in the form of vitamins, minerals, carotenoids and so on. It is easy to identify antioxidants by the colour of the foods – different coloured foods have different antioxidants so it is important to have a diet that is rich in all food colours to ensure that you are getting adequate amounts of each antioxidant.

As previously mentioned, there are over 4000 compounds that have antioxidant properties. Some of the most commonly known include:

vitamin C – is found in citrus fruits, blackcurrants, capsicum, and berries
vitamin E – is found in vegetable oils, avocadoes, nuts, and wholegrains
beta carotene – is found in pumpkin, and carrots
selenium – is found in seafood, lean meat, and wholegrains
anthocyanins – are found in berries, eggplants, and grapes
catechins – are found in red wine and tea
flavenoids – are found in tea, citrus fruits, red wine, and apples
isoflavenoids – are found in soy products, lentils, and milk
lignans – are found in sesame seeds, bran, vegetables, and wholegrains
lutein – is found in leafy greens and corn
lycopene – is found in tomatoes and watermelon
manganese – is found in lean meat, seafood, milk, and nuts
polyphenols – are found in thyme and oregano
The foods associated with the antioxidants above are just examples of what foods the associated antioxidants can be found in. Some of the best overall sources of antioxidants are berries, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pomegranates, and ginger. In fact, you could think of these as the “superfoods” of the antioxidant world.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera contains over 70 necessary ingredients and more than 200 biologically active elements including minerals, enzymes, polysaccharides, vitamins, biological stimulators, amino acids, and proteins. These work on the body in a number of ways to bring about surprising benefits. Read on to learn more.

ALCALINE H2O

Alkaline Water

Water is water, right? Not necessarily. Alkaline water can help to create proper health in your body. Read on to learn more.

The Importance of the Acid-Alkaline Balance

Optimal health in the body starts with having the correct acid-alkaline balance. The pH levels of our internal fluids affects every cell in the body and an extended acid imbalance of any kind can lead to health problems. The body will maintain a very narrow pH range, especially in the blood. Most interior living matter has a pH of around 6.8. The blood plasma and the other fluids that surround the bodily cells have a pH of 7.2 to 7.45. A blood pH of 6.9 can induce coma and death. All bodily systems are secondary to the importance of pH balancing. If the pH becomes too acidic, the person may experience low energy levels, fatigue, excess weight, poor digestion, aches and pains, and even more serious problems. The acidity cycle occurs through people eating acidifying foods; pathogens creating acidifying toxins in the body; and the body not eliminating acids properly. The process of reestablishing the correct acid-alkaline balance begins with proper nutrition. This includes eating alkalising foods, proper supplementation, and drinking plenty of alkaline water that is ionic and structured.

Why Water is so Important in Maintaining the Acid-Alkaline Balance
Water is the most essential element in establishing and maintaining the correct acid-alkaline balance. The quality of the water is just as important as how much of it you drink, as the water that you ingest must be capable of preventing toxins and chemicals from accumulating and creating destructive influences within the cells. It also transports minerals and nutrients that are necessary for cell metabolism, and remove substances that can damage the cell. The water that you drink should have a pH of between 9 and 10.

The water needs to be alkaline and ionised. Alkaline water helps to neutralise the stored acids and toxins in the body. Once neutralised, the body can then remove them. Alkaline water that is also ionised acts as a conductor of electrochemical activity from cell to cells. Studies have shown that ionised, alkaline water can help the body to resist disease and slow aging by increasing intercellular hydration, replenishing essential minerals, stabilising and protecting cells, helping to maintain a normal blood flow and acid-alkaline balance, flushing out and preventing waste from accumulating in cells, and preventing free radicals from forming and damaging other cells.

Free radicals are unstable positively charged oxygen atoms that are created by the body with the purpose of oxidising putrefactive matter, but they are over produced by a body that is out of balance. To stabilise themselves, free radicals will steal electrons from stable cells. When the cell loses the electron from a pair, it loses energy and diets. Ionised water can prevent the cells from losing these electrons and restabilise the oxygen molecule, thus neutralising the free radicals.

Creating Alkaline Water at Home
Water distillers heat tap water electrically to boiling point. The purified condensation then drains into a clean container, leaving the impurities behind in the boiling chamber. The process of distillation kills and removes bacteria, viruses, cysts, and heavy metals. It has more oxygen ions and fewer hydrogen ions, making the water more alkaline than other types of water.

Water ionisers ionise water by running it over positive and negative electrodes. This separates the water into alkaline and acidic. This is great as the alkaline water is used for drinking while the acidic water can be used on the outside of the body as it is proven to kill many types of bacteria. Some water ionisers also come with an alkalinity adjustment, allowing you to set your preferred level of alkalinity.

Reverse osmosis water filters use a fine membrane to filter water, allowing the removal of bacteria, sugars, salts, proteins, particles, dyes, and other damaging elements. The membrane is semi-permeable, allowing the water through while removing the contaminants. Reverse osmosis water is far more alkaline than tap or bottled water.

Go alcaline!

Alkaline foods are vital for helping the body to maintain its natural pH balance. Read on to find out more about why this balance needs to be maintained and to learn more about alkaline foods.

What is pH and Why is it Important?

The pH level of the body needs to be maintained at a level between 7.35 and 7.45. If it is higher or lower than this, symptoms or disease will occur. If the level drops to below 6.8 or rises above 7.8 the cells will stop working and the body will die. When the pH level of the body is not correctly maintained, there are negative effects on the body including problems such as bone weakness, heart problems, obesity and weight problems, allergies, and fatigue, just to name a few.

Why Eat Alkaline Foods?

Because the typical Western diet is largely made up of proteins, sugars, and other acid-forming foods, it is important to try and alkalinise the diet so that acidosis, and therefore disease do not occur. It is important to try and avoid eating too much acid-producing food such as sugars, dairy, meat, caffeine, alcohol, wheat, yeast, fruits, bad fats, and salts. As a general guide, manufactured or processed foods are acid-producing while natural foods (with a few exceptions), are alkaline-producing. At least 60 percent of alkaline-producing foods should be eaten, although the ideal amount is 75 to 80 percent alkaline foods to 20 to 25 percent acidic foods.

How do Alkaline Foods Help the Body?
If the correct ratio of alkaline and acidic foods in the diet is maintained, the body is healthy and able to resist disease. When a person is suffering from disease where acidosis, or having too much acid in their bodies, is present, adding alkaline foods to the diet will help the person to recover faster. This is because the alkaline elements will neutralise the acids and help to build an “emergency store” of alkaline elements that the body can draw upon to help neutralise acids in the future.

Examples of Alkaline Foods
Alkaline foods include:

Vegetables – such as asparagus, artichokes, cabbage, lettuce, onion, cauliflower, radish, swedes, peas, zucchini, leeks, watercress, spinach, turnip, chives, carrots, beans, beetroot, garlic, celery, grasses, cucumber, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts

Fruits – but only lemon, lime, avocado, tomato, grapefruit, watermelon, and rhubarb. Other fruits are classified as being acidic.

Drinks – such as “green drinks”, fresh vegetable juices, pure water, lemon water, herbal tea, vegetable broth, unsweetened soy milk, and almond milk

Seeds, Nuts and Grains – such as almonds, pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, flax, buckwheat, spelt, lentils, cumin seeds, and any sprouted seed.

Fats and Oils – such as flax, hemp, avocado, olive, evening primrose, and borage

Other foods – such as sprouts (e.g. alfalfa, mung bean, chickpea etc), hummus, and tahini

Reduce acidic foods!

Acidic Foods

Acidic foods are becoming ever more common in the Western diet but they may be doing us more harm than good. Read on to find out why we need to balance acidic and alkaline foods.

Why do we need to Balance Acidic and Alkaline Foods?
The pH of the blood in the body is important as if the balance is incorrect, symptoms

and disease may occur. The blood pH should be slightly alkaline (between 7.35 and 7.45). if the pH drops below 6.8 or moves above 7.8, the cells in the body will stop functioning and death will occur. Thus, the body, continually strives to maintain its pH. If the diet is not balanced and is too high in acid-forming foods such as animal protein, sugar, stimulants, and processed food, extra pressure is placed on the body to regulate its pH.

Our current diet is largely made up of acid-forming foods with alkaline-producing foods, such as vegetables, being eaten in much smaller quantities. Stimulants such as coffee, tea, and alcohol are also extremely acidifying. Many foods are alkaline-producing by nature, but processed foods are usually very acid-producing. For this reason, we should be eating at least 60 percent of alkaline-producing foods in order to maintain good health. Not only do processed, sugary or simple carbohydrate foods produce acid, they also raise the blood sugar level very quickly and tend to be low in nutrients.

Examples of Acidic Foods

Acidic foods include:

Meats – such as pork, lamb, beef, chicken, turkey, and seafood (apart from the occasional oily fish such as salmon)

Dairy Products – such as milk, cheese, cream, yogurt, ice cream

Drinks – such as soft drinks, coffee, tea, alcohol, fruit juice, dairy-based smoothies, and milk

Other Foods – such as eggs, vinegar, white pasta, white bread, wholemeal bread, biscuits, soy sauce, condiments, artificial sweeteners, and honey

Fast Foods – such as sweets, chocolate, microwave meals, canned foods, instant soups, instant meals, and takeaway fast food

Fats and Oils – such as saturated fats, hydrogenated oils, margarine, corn oil, vegetable oil, and sunflower oil

Fruits – all fruits excluding those that are listed as being alkaline foods

Seeds and Nuts – peanuts, cashew nuts, and pistachio nuts
Problems Caused by Acidic Foods

If the body is too acidic, the body will take alkaline minerals from the body in order to maintain its pH levels. Such minerals include sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, and depletion of these can result in the person becoming prone to chronic or degenerative disease. The minerals are taken from the vital organs of the body and the bones in order to neutralise the acid and safely remove it from the body.

If you have a health problem, it is likely that you are suffering from acidosis. Acidosis decreases the body’s ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients, energy production in the cells, the body’s ability to repair damaged cells, and the body’s ability to detoxify heavy metals. It also helps abnormal cells to grow and makes the body more susceptible to fatigue or illness. acidosis can cause or contribute to such problems as:

cardiovascular damage

weight gain or obesity

diabetes

bladder conditions

kidney stones

hormonal problems

premature ageing

osteoporosis

low energy or chronic fatigue

digestive disorders

yeast or fungal overgrowth

headache

increased susceptibility to infections

emotional issues such as becoming easily stressed, depression, and lack of enthusiasm

easily irritated skin or dry skin

dull hair and thin nails

oral problems such as loose, painful teeth, inflamed gums, mouth ulcers, and cracks at the corners of the lips

Pro Thin Weight Management System Testimonials

Posted: 19 Mar 2009 01:28 AM PDT

It all begins with a choice! And in this case it was the choice to release the FAT!

03/11/06

I decided to start the ProThin Weight Management Program during a Leadership Event in October 2006 with Jerry Clark and Artemis Limpert. I realized as I listened to Artemis how important it was to be congruent, as my mind had become stodgy so had my body, or was it the other way around?

Either way, looking at it, it was time to become ProThin! My goal was to transform my body, utilizing the ProThin Weight Management Program before the Neways Convention in February 2007. Through the product and the program combined I had ‘amazing’ results!

Prior to embarking on the Prothin I found it difficult to run on the Treadmill for longer than 2mins at 9km/hr and I weighed 88kgs. 3months after starting the program I was 78kgs, 4kgs below my Goal weight and I could run for 15mins at 12km/hr.

Heather and I started attending the Gym in accordance with the recommendations of the program. Having a “Buddy” made the journey so much easier, and rewarding.I formed a new habit and the most impressive thing was the change in my attitude...what I found was as my health improved, so did my business, and my clarity of mind.

Through the simple discipline of attending the gym daily and continuing to use the ProThin Weight Management Program I was able to achieve some amazing goals. One of my proudest achievement was completing the 2007 City 2 Surf.

Thanks to the challenge issued by my friend and Team Member, Inna Pavlova, a 2 x Olympic Silver Medal Rower and Olympic Rowing Coach. I completed the City 2 Surf’s 14.4km run in 95mins 10secs. I was placed in the top 1/3 (17,514th) of the total 64,713 fellow competitors. The reason for achieving my goals, was a combination of the ProThin Weight Management Program, a strong mindset, constant daily discipline and an exercise and training routine, designed and supported by Inna.

You know it really doesn’t matter what YOU put your mind to you can achieve it!

It’s just a matter of making a choice, creating a plan to achieve it and carrying out the actions!

Just like I did!
